After microneedling, it is important to use the right skin care to limit the chances of any sort of skin harshness or infection. Here are some factors to take into consideration before choosing a skin care after microneedling:
- Avoid using any products containing alcohol such as toners or astringents because they may dry out the skin too much and cause irritation
- Use only gentle cleanser daily in place of exfoliants while avoiding irritants like scrubs until things calm down with your face
- Wear sunscreen every day after this treatment so that those UV rays don’t trigger adverse effects on an already sensitive complexion
- Be careful not to use any scented items
- Avoid glycolic acid or alpha hydroxy acids
- Since microneedling induces inflammation, Retinol A and vitamin C serum should be avoided for the first 72 hours post-treatment. These products can aggravate skin damage caused by micro-abrasions that heal in this timeframe
- You can use products that contain hyaluronic acid

How Does Microneedling Work?
1. Inflammation
SkinPen’s microneedles pierce the skin, triggering your immune system to disinfect the wounds, remove debris, increase blood flow, and begin to create new tissue.
2. Proliferation
The micro-wounds created by SkinPen are rebuilt with new granulation cells that include collagen proteins. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develops.
3. Remodeling
Remodeling the wound is replaced with new dermal tissues and blood vessels which are comprised of rich collagen and elastin proteins. These proteins improve skin youthfulness.

SkinPen works by creating a series of hundreds of microscopic channels into the dermis to stimulate the skin’s natural production of new collagen and elastin, helping skin to look and feel healthier. During your consultation, we take photos of your skin and our clinicians will assess your skin to make sure you are a good candidate for microneedling. We also want to make sure you do not have active acne or a pigmentation issue that might be worsened with microneedling. Our goal is to get the best results for you, and that starts with a good assessment.
Microneedling can be performed using SkinPen®, a medical-grade, state-of-the-art microneedling tool available only through medical professionals. The treatment typically takes about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the size and number of areas treated and the degree of treatment requested by the patient.
Most of our clients tell us the numbing sensation is gone after about 3-4 hours. This helps you stay as pain-free as possible after your treatment.
SkinPen’s variable needle depth allows for maximum versatility, making it safe and effective to use on many parts of the body, including the face, neck and décolletage.
Generally most patients will experience redness and heat to the area post treatment. Heat tends to subside within 1-2 hours and redness tends to reduce within 24-48 hours.
The natural repair process of your own skin continues to progress through the course of several weeks. Damage that has occurred over an extensive period of time won’t disappear immediately. You may not see the final result for up to six months following your final session. *Individual results will vary.
Multiple treatment sessions will be recommended depending on the skin concern being targeted. We recommend treatments to be 4 weeks apart and is a great treatment option that can be intermittently used in conjunction with other treatments.
Due to the nature of the natural healing process, results will continue to improve in the weeks following treatment, with optimum results being visible at around 3-6 months post the final treatment session.
